The Flukes Café is nicely situated close to the beach and the Whale Watching Office. The staff has not been very friendly though and when we arrived there no hot drinks and no credit card pay were available due to problems with electricity. When we came back from the Whale Watching coffee was available but a little cappuccino costs 5,30$. Very expensive!

This was a great find, while waiting for Whale Watch trip. My husband and I had Salmon Eggs Benedict..on a lovely hash brown..but not your standard hash brown..it was extra yummy! We spoke to the delightful cook....altogether a great experience...good coffee too and wonderful sea and mountain views..what more could you ask for! Oh and the cabinet selection look great too.

So I don't usually give out reviews, but this kinda stunned me. It has 3 other reviews, 2 on google and 1 on facebook. They give five stars. It might have been for the quality of the food. The pastries and toasties are good. The coffee is good. But the service was absolute the worst we have encountered yet in New Zealand. First, I specifically asked for a soy milk cappuccino. I don't do this because I'm some hippie, but I'm seriously allergic. Aside from that, I ordered two regular cappuccino's for the ones traveling with me. When picking up these cappuccinos, I asked which one was the soy one. She pointed at one, and I assumed it was okay. It was not. The rest of the day was terrible because of allergic reactions. A mixup might happen, but this was not the only thing happening. The ones traveling with me ordered a danish and a cheese onion toastie. When I came to pick it up, only the danish was presented to me. There was a mixup in the kitchen and they gave another costumer my danish. They very rudely asked which one I ordered. The rudeness was unnecessary. It's not my fault that this place, with 3 people in the kitchen, 2 behind the counter and 1 'supervising' it all can't serve out the right orders. Then when I waited for the toastie, a very short, unfriendly: what are you waiting for? came to me. Not 'Can I help you', or 'Is there something wrong'. To sum it up: the quality of the things they serve is great, but the service itself is just abhorrent.
